A utopian album, because it is dedicated to the idea of building bridges, whether they be Iberian bridges between Portugal and Spain, or bridges between the people who inhabit this small planet that we want to be blue (but which is sometimes also very grey). The most beautiful form of human architecture, whether seen from the outside or experienced from within, is the bridge. Some also call it empathy. An album dedicated to all those who seek to feel it every day towards those who are suffering.
The Portuguese pianist and composer Júlio Resende and the Catalan musician Jorge Rossy, one of the most respected figures in European and international jazz, have joined forces in the Trio Ibérico to present Bridges Not Walls (Ponte Ibérica/Puente Ibérico). Conceived by Júlio Resende, the Júlio Resende Trio Ibérico stems from a desire to bring together two cultures that share a common geography, history and countless artistic affinities. Alongside the pianist, Jorge Rossy — internationally recognised for his work in Brad Mehldau’s legendary trio and for his collaborations with some of the leading figures in contemporary jazz — plays a central role in this musical encounter. The line-up is completed by Romeu Tristão, one of the most promising double bassists of the new generation of Portuguese jazz.
